Complications include hyperchloremic metabolic acidosis, hyperammonemia, hypokalemia, vitamin B12 deficiency, bone demineralization, and development of adenocarcinoma of the interposed intestinal segment,, stone formation, malabsorption of bile salts with diarrhea.
