Trichinella spiralis is a nematode parasite acquired by the ingestion of larvae in undercooked meat from infected pigs that have eaten T spiralis infected rats or pork.

About 100 cases a year in the U.S.

Widespread were undercooked pork is eaten.

T spiralis larvae develop in the gut into adults that mate and release new larvae, which penetrate into the tissues.

Associated with high grade eosinophilia.
